what is Biocene?
The word “Biocene” is used in two contexts the New/Available Biota, and more popularly in the contemporary context with realisation of Human Being’s position as a part of Ecosystem and not an influencer or ruler of Ecosystem with records of improving Ecosystem wellbeing both in the digital and fossil form – for future reference and records. In simple terms, when the future generations check the record of today’s time in digital library and fossils they can observe the contemporary natural ecosystem being restored from its destruction of the past decades – this situation is termed as Biocene.
Bio + Cene (Biology + New/Current Time) is the Age of Biocenosis. Biocenosis is the interaction of organisms living together in a habitat, representing Community Ecology. In Biocene, Human Beings live in harmonic interaction with other organisms.
This concept is a contradiction to Anthropocene which was coined in 2000 describing significant impact of human beings on the earth’s climate and ecosystems felt since the 1950s. Both Anthropocene and Biocene are unofficial time-periods or Epochs under the Holocene Epoch which started around 11,700 years ago after the end of the last major ice age starting a new era of ecosystem services and its biological record keeping.
